2 Healthy Holiday Dog Treat Recipes

The holidays are upon us, and while you’re probably already planning all of that holiday baking, what you’ll bring to the festive potluck, or what you’ll serve for dinner on the big day, you may not have thought yet about what you’re making for your adored beast! Of course, we’ve got you covered with 2 healthy holiday dog treat recipes that are sure to please!

One is savoury, and one is sweet, so you’ve got a main course and a dessert ready in a snap (well, perhaps a bit more than a snap). Best of all, they’re both healthy and nutritious.

Holiday Dog Treat Recipes

🍲 Warm Winter Stew

For the savoury, we’re tickling even our own tastebuds with a warm winter stew. This is one of our favourite holiday dog treat recipes – we make it every year in our house!

Ingredients:

1 pound of stewing beef

1/2 cup beef liver

1/4 cup cabbage

1/4 cup turnip or winter squash

1/4 cup carrots

1/4 cup spinach

Chop up your meats and veggies into bite-sized pieces.

Toss everything into your crockpot and add enough water to just cover everything. You can also add bone broth for some added flavour if you have it.

Cook on low for 6-8 hours until everything is tender.

Store in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days, or potion and freeze.

You can feed this on its own or pour a hearty serving over your pup’s regular dinner. We like to serve it warm (not hot).

☃️ Frosty Banana Bites

Now for the sweet! Make these simple 3 ingredient bites in batches. They’re sure to melt your pup’s heart!

Ingredients:

2 large bananas – the riper bananas are, the more sugar they contain and the lower the total vitamins and fibre, so we like to go with unripe or barely ripe bananas

1/2 cup plain kefir

1/4 cup blueberries

Peel your bananas up into thick rounds (you want circles, not slices) and carefully remove the centre of each circle. Think of them as little banana donuts.

In a blender, blend the banana middles, the blueberries, and the kefir. If it seems too thick, add a bit more kefir or a little water.

Place your banana donuts on a cookie sheet, add some of the blended “smoothie” into the middle, then freeze.

Once frozen, transfer the bites to an airtight container and keep them in the freezer. They’re good for several weeks in the freezer (if they last that long).

You can give these as treats directly from the freezer or add one or two on top of your pet’s regular meal!

This year, give the gift of great nutrition with these simple, yet healthy, holiday dog treat recipes. We all know our animals are worth it!
