BioStar US FAQ

How long do your products stay fresh?

Our products are freeze-dried or dehydrated and are generally considered fresh within six months of their creation.  You will find a best-by date on each package, before which the product is at its best. To maximize freshness, keep BioStar products stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, and keep bags and jars closed when not in use.

If the expiration date has passed, do I need to throw away the product?

That's up to you.  Our products have a "best by" date, which means that while the product may no longer be as potent as it once was, it will not hurt to continue to use it. Similar to kitchen spices, the effectiveness may wane over time, but the supplement is not considered dangerous to use.

Is the quality of ingredients monitored?

We would have it no other way. BioStar has exceptionally high standards for every ingredient and method of production, and we use only the best, most nutritious, whole, organic ingredients for our supplement formulas.

Can humans use these supplements?

While all ingredients are chosen for exceptional quality, they are blended in specific amounts and proportions for formulas that we’ve designed for equine and canine body systems. Due to state and federal regulations, we cannot recommend our products for human use.

How do I choose between similar-sounding supplements?

This is a complex question, as it depends on the supplement and the needs of your animals. See under BioStar Canine Supplements - What to use, when to use? Our YouTube channel provides video explanations as well. Call us if you have more questions!

How is BioStar's bovine colostrum collected?

Our colostrum comes from cows that are grass-fed, pasture-raised, and not treated with recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH). The colostrum is collected only after the first 12 hours of birth and within a 36-hour time frame, when the colostrum is at its peak. Calves alone receive it during the first 12 hours; after that, it is shared. Because of the pasteurization process and a subsequent  centrifugation step, the essential IgG antibodies can be concentrated from a minimal volume of collected colostrum. Calves are not separated from their mothers, ensuring the higher quality and quantity of milk that results when a cow is allowed to raise her calf.

Are BioStar bags recyclable?

While not biodegradable (we need them to stand up to light and heat to be suitable for the supplements), our bags are recyclable as #7 plastics. If recycling is not available in your region, rest assured that our bags are considered "landfill friendly" because they collapse flat and do not impact landfills in any significant way.
