JOOF PawNutrition

Your Personalised Feeding Framework for Dogs & Cats

There is no one-size-fits-all diet. Feed the animal in front of you. Every pet is different. Their nutritional needs, food preferences, health circumstances, lifestyle and even what their family can realistically prepare can all vary.

PawNutrition is our customised fresh food feeding framework, built around your individual pet. Whether you prefer raw or gently cooked feeding, we look at your pet's individual needs and guide you toward a practical feeding approach designed specifically for them.

It isn't about following a generic recipe or simply adjusting the portion based on body weight. It's about understanding the animal in front of you and building a feeding approach around them.

Our Philosophy: Feed the Animal, Not the Label

A nutrition label tells you what's in the bag — not what your pet actually needs.

Food is more than simply something that fills the stomach. It provides the nutrients the body needs to function, maintain itself, grow and repair. Nutrition is one of the foundations of health.

This is why we believe what we feed our pets deserves thoughtful consideration — not just in terms of calories, but also the quality of ingredients, their nutritional value, how they are prepared, and whether the overall diet is appropriate for the individual animal.

Good nutrition starts with the right food.

Dogs and cats have different nutritional requirements and different evolutionary backgrounds. Cats are obligate carnivores, with nutritional requirements that are naturally met through animal-based foods. Dogs are more adaptable, able to utilise a wider range of foods, but their evolutionary history and physiology still support an animal-based foundation to their diet.

At JOOF, we believe feeding should respect the animal's species while also recognising that every individual pet is different. The goal isn't simply to follow a trend, a feeding model or someone else's recipe. It's to understand the animal in front of you.

"Let thy food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food."

— Hippocrates

Why Fresh Food

Modern pet food has made feeding incredibly convenient. Open the bag, measure the portion and you're done.
But convenience comes with a cost. At JOOF, we question whether a highly processed, shelf-stable product should be the foundation of an animal's diet simply because it is convenient and has been formulated to meet nutritional requirements. Meeting a nutrient requirement on a label is not the same as nourishing an animal with real food.

When whole ingredients are heavily processed, they are no longer the same food in the form nature provided them. Processing can change the original food matrix and affect the natural nutrients and other components within those ingredients. And when nutrients are lost or altered through processing, they can be added back as isolated vitamins, minerals and other manufactured ingredients to help the finished product meet its nutritional specifications. But adding synthetic nutrients back does not turn a highly processed product back into the whole food it came from.

Food is not simply a list of numbers. It is a complex combination of nutrients and naturally occurring compounds that exist together within the food itself — in forms that the body may digest, absorb and utilise differently from isolated or manufactured nutrients. A synthetic vitamin may have the same name as a vitamin found in food, but that doesn't mean the two are nutritionally identical in the way they exist, interact or are utilised by the body.

"The food you eat can be either the safest and most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison."

— Ann Wigmore, Holistic Health Practitioner & Naturopath

We Choose Real Food

We believe our pets deserve access to real, whole, recognisable foods as the foundation of their diet wherever appropriate. Fresh food allows us to work with the actual ingredients rather than starting with a highly processed finished product and attempting to rebuild its nutritional profile afterwards.

We can consider:

The quality and source of the ingredients
The natural nutrients within those foods
How the ingredients are prepared
How different foods complement one another
The individual animal's nutritional requirements
What the animal can tolerate
What is practical for their family

We recognise that fresh food requires more effort. There is no pretending that fresh feeding is as convenient as opening a bag and pouring a bowl. But we believe that effort is worthwhile.

For us, fresh food is about being more intentional about what we feed — choosing whole, recognisable ingredients and creating a diet that is thoughtfully considered for the animal in front of us.

Fresh, Done Right

This is important: fresh does not automatically mean complete.

A bowl full of meat isn't necessarily a complete diet. Adding vegetables or supplements doesn't automatically make a homemade diet appropriate either. A fresh food diet can still have nutritional gaps, excesses or inappropriate proportions if it isn't properly considered — regardless of how fresh or high-quality the individual ingredients are.

That's why fresh food and thoughtful planning have to go together. We don't simply believe in 'feeding fresh.' We believe in feeding thoughtfully. We believe nutrients should come from whole foods first whenever possible. Supplements may have a role where appropriate, but they should support a good diet — not compensate for one that isn't working. Getting this right doesn't require a rigid, locked-down recipe — it requires understanding the principles behind good feeding, and applying them consistently.

PawNutrition takes a different, equally valid approach — balance built through variety over time, the same way human diets work. It gives you a feeding style that's realistic to sustain day to day, with the flexibility to rotate ingredients rather than follow a single locked formula. Many pets do well simply transitioning onto real, whole foods prepared this way, with the freedom to adjust as their needs evolve.

The foundation comes first. We don't believe in feeding a bag of nutrients. We believe in feeding an animal.

Introducing PawNutrition

A generic recipe can tell you what to feed. PawNutrition starts with a different question: Who are we feeding?

Your pet's species, age, size, activity, current diet, food preferences, health circumstances, tolerances and your family's practical needs all matter. We don't simply take a standard recipe and adjust the quantity. We build a personalised feeding framework around your individual pet.

Because nutrition isn't about finding the one "perfect" diet. It's about finding an approach that is nutritionally appropriate, practical and suitable for the animal in front of you — built up over time through variety, not locked into one fixed formula, much like how we as humans don't need every single meal to be perfectly complete and balanced.

PawNutrition is designed to help you feel more confident about feeding fresh food. Depending on your pet's needs, your framework may help you understand:

  • Appropriate ingredients
  • Raw or gently cooked feeding
  • Ingredient rotation & variety
  • Daily feeding amounts
  • Meal portioning
  • Preparation
  • Feeding practicalities
  • Ingredient alternatives
  • Individual nutritional considerations

The goal is not to overwhelm you with complicated spreadsheets or unnecessary calculations. It is to give you a practical nutritional foundation you can actually use.

Meet Judy

I'm a Certified Professional Canine Nutritionist (CPCN) and Raw Nutrition Coach for Cats & Dogs (BRNC), and the founder of JOOF Holistic Pet. My approach to nutrition is centred around whole foods first, individual needs and practical feeding. I don't believe in following a diet simply because it is popular or because it worked for another pet.
There is no one-size-fits-all diet. Feed the animal in front of you.

Good food takes time. Learning takes time. You don't have to know everything at once. My goal is to help you understand what you're feeding, feel more confident preparing your pet's meals, and give you a practical starting point that works for your pet and your life.

My highest goal is to help animals, so we should look at whatever we can to help them. Nutrition is one of the areas where we can make a meaningful difference every single day — because every day, we choose what goes into our pets' bowls. At JOOF, I want to help you make those choices with greater understanding, intention and confidence.

"You're not alone. I'm here to support you and your fur baby with what I've learned on this journey."

— Judy, JOOF Holistic Pet
