Vaccinosis in Pets: What It Is and How to Support Your Pet After Vaccines

QUICK ANSWER

Vaccinosis is a homeopathic term for a chronic, long-term reaction to vaccines. Unlike an immediate reaction, it can build up quietly over months or years, showing up as low energy, allergies, joint pain or behaviour changes. Record every reaction with your vet, avoid unnecessary vaccines, and support your pet's body after vaccination.

Vaccines are one of the most debated topics in both human and animal health, with views ranging from no vaccines at all to every vaccine on the schedule. Whatever your view, vaccinosis is worth understanding.

What is vaccinosis?

Vaccinosis is a homeopathic term for a chronic, negative reaction to a vaccine. Conventional medicine generally sees vaccine side effects as temporary, and vets focus on the immediate reactions: swelling, inflammation, vomiting, diarrhoea, fever, anaphylaxis, oedema, cardiac arrest and, rarely, death. In life-threatening situations, homeopathic "reaction" remedies can be supportive alongside veterinary care.

Vaccinosis is different. It's chronic and long-term. In homeopathy, the body's energy to fight disease is called the "vital force", similar to "chi" in Traditional Chinese Medicine. The effects aren't limited to the 24–48 hours after a vaccine. As Julie Anne Lee, homeopath and founder of Adored Beast Apothecary, describes it:

✓ After the first-year vaccine: a slight drop in energy

✓ After the second-year vaccine: more lethargy, joint pain and allergy symptoms

✓ Over years one to three: possible fearfulness, depression or aggression

The vaccine forces an intense immune response that the body can't fully clear, leaving a long-term imbalance. Conditions that normally appear in old age, such as arthritis, allergies, multiple sclerosis and diabetes, can then start earlier, reducing quality of life and lifespan.

The river analogy

Imagine the vital force as a flowing river. A vaccine is like a tree falling into it: unnatural and disruptive. Combination vaccines are especially so, as they contain adjuvants, antigens and preservatives.

At first, the river simply flows around the tree. This shows up as lethargy, anxiety and a mild fever. Over time, debris builds up and erodes the riverbank, leading to chronic inflammation and conditions such as autoimmune disorders, chronic arthritis, epilepsy and heart disease.

Vets will often say the symptoms will pass. But waiting it out, or using medication, only suppresses the symptoms and leaves the underlying trauma in place. Vaccine harm is a slow erosion, not a sudden injury.

What you can do

✓ Learn about vaccines from non-biased research.

✓ Choose which vaccines to give and how often, rather than treating it as a simple yes or no.

✓ Avoid unnecessary vaccinations.

✓ Consider titre testing. It's an option to check your pet's immunity before re-vaccinating. More on that in our upcoming vaccine guide.

FROM MY EXPERIENCE

Wangcai's skin condition, right from when we got him as a puppy, was suspected to be a vaccine injury, also known as vaccinosis. He was later suspected to have an autoimmune condition too.

When I adopted BeanBean, she had just been given pest control medication. I gave her Rebalancer for 2 days to help her body clear it.

For as long as they've been with me, both of them have only had titre tests, no re-vaccinations.

If your pet has a vaccine reaction

Emergency: swelling of the lips, eyes, tongue or face needs immediate veterinary care, as it can lead to anaphylactic shock.

1

Go back to the clinic after any side effect, so the reaction is recorded in your pet's medical history. Complaints over the phone are often brushed off.

2

Expect the usual response: often an antihistamine or rest, with recovery in a day or two.

3

Use the record. Once a reaction is on file, vets tend to take future reactions more seriously. Reactions can get worse with each vaccine, and an antihistamine before vaccinating doesn't slow the chronic process. You may be able to decline future vaccines, sign a waiver, and use titre testing instead.

Homeopathic support

Julie Anne Lee recommends these homeopathic remedies:

Right after a reaction

Once any immediate allergy treatment has been given, homeopathic arnica 200c and aconite 200c can calm an over-triggered reaction. These come together in Adored Beast Your Go2.

For long-term symptoms

For chronic symptoms after vaccination, Adored Beast Rebalancer helps remove the vaccine's effects and restore the vital force, so the body can heal itself.

Clearing vaccine additives

According to homeopathic journals, materia medicas and repertories, thuja and silica help remove vaccine additives such as adjuvants, antigens, thimerosal (ethyl mercury) and formaldehyde from the body.

You can also consult a qualified homeopath for a remedy tailored to your pet.

In summary

Whatever your stance on vaccines, vaccinosis is worth considering. Its long-term effects may not appear for months or even years. Taking steps to help your pet's body deal with vaccine additives protects their vital force and supports a longer, healthier life.
